9 Things Most Nigerian Teens/Young Adults Do

1. The Innocent Child Facade. It’s that awkward moment when you’re watching a movie with your parents and then it’s the sex scene. You avert your eyes and suddenly become interested in the rug on the floor or you even fast forward to other scenes. Who are you deceiving, my dear?

2. Turning your younger siblings into mini-housemaids. If you’re an only child or last born, this line is not for you. Some of you are taskmasters, you can even send the dead on an errand. You delegate your house chores to your younger ones. My mum would say Wón rán obo ní sé, obo rán run die. ( My translation is probably erroneous but it’s the best I could come up with it so here goes nothing; A monkey is sent on an errand, the monkey sends it butt hair😂. If you know the correct translation, please signify in the comments section)

3. The petty thieves. When your parents send you to buy something, you pocket the change or your parents forget to ask for change and you don’t bother reminding them.

4. Extortionists. This category is filled with the college students. If a textbook is priced at #500, you tell your parents that it’s #1500. When they suspect that you’re lying about the price, they say things like “Your children would also do the same for you,” like that has ever stopped you before? Going by their logic, it would mean they also did the same to their parents.

5. Music. I’ve never met a teen/young adult who didn’t listen to or like music. If you don’t like music, there must be something fundamentally wrong with you.

6. Stealing from Mummy’s cooking pot. I don’t partake in this but some of you are bosses in the business, especially the ones who do it at midnight when everybody’s asleep. The targets are mainly meat, fish, chicken, etc.  Shout-out to those mothers who actually count the number of meat in the pot before sleeping 😂.

7. Rebellion. We’ve all rebelled at some point in our lives. When your parents tell you to do this and you turn around and do the exact opposite of what they told you to do.

8. Phone Fever. You’re always pressing that phone. You’re either watching movies or listening to music or you’re on WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

9. The actors. Most parents actually pray at midnight and they come to your room at that time to pray for you too while you’re asleep. But are you sleeping? No. You’re only pretending that you are because you heard them coming and you don’t want them to catch you awake, pressing your phone.

Is there anything I’m missing? Let me know in the comments section.

What category or categories do you belong? Can you relate with any of the above mentioned… I would love to hear it in the comments section.

  1. I love these 😁🙌. Everything here is 100% trueeee especially the 9th part 😂😂. I think you needed to include the one of parents waking up their children very late at night when they’re deep in their sleeps, can be very annoying 😂😂💔

  2. I was a mistress when it comes to that number 2😂 my mum too used to say it. She would also say wón rán òbo ní sé, òbó rán ìrù ìdíè. A monkey is sent on an errand, the monkey sends its tail
